The land moves beneath them in a blur, only colors are allow them to tell what there flying over. The flight is silent with the occasional sound of a small thunder clap from the air movement caused by their wing flap. They glide along the wind currents, feeling there way from one current to the next.

He looks over at her, her long black wings spread wide with the occasional hint of red peaking thru from her wing movements. Her underbelly shows its normal blood red color, but is extended more than normal. This has him concerned. He knows the flight is dangerous for her. There are bound to be hunters everywhere, especially at the news of a possible new leader. They must make this flight to a safe place. He will be better off to guard her, not only when they touch down, but also once she gets the egg out of her body.
He looks into her eyes, seeing the same sparkle as always, but brighter now. She smiles at him trying to reassure him. He returns the smile, appreciative of her attempting to help him feel better. They continue the journey, always on their guard.

They cross a large body of water; he looks down at it seeing the sun above them, and his mates’ silhouette. He glows as bright as the sun in the reflection. He knows this draws attention to him, so he stays close enough to the sun to cover him. The water acts as a mirror, giving him a chance to see how he looks compared to the sun.

They are nearing their destination; he sees the mountains in the distance. The forest below them opens up into a little clearing at the foothills of the mountain. He goes in first and circles the area, watching for any threats. After seeing nothing, he signals her it's ok to land. She sets down, with him right behind her.

His senses still trained, he hears the snap of a twig, but before he’s able to warn her, they are surrounded by hunters. Quickly overrun by numerous hunters, like ants all over the ground, they are pinned down by ropes. He can’t move, even though he struggles to get free. He hears the hunters yelling orders to each other. He continues struggling, managing to get one claw free and swipes and tears two hunters to shreds. He is quickly caught and covered with more ropes, unable to move at all.

He looks over to see his mate tied down, also unable to move. He struggles harder now trying to break free. He must save them, but still cannot move. He sees two men moving toward her, carrying axes. She starts struggling move, her claws are bound, her mouth tied and wings tied down. Her attempts are pointless.

One of the two hunters steps in front of her and swings his ax into her belly. She lets out a muffled roar of pain. The two men reach in and begin pulling out her insides. Blood is gushing out of her wound now.

He struggles even more to break free; he has to get to her now. He moves very little under the tension of the ropes. He can only watch now. His anger builds as the two men continue moving inside her wound. Finally, with smiles on there faces, pull the egg from her body. They carry it away from her, as many more men gather around. He cannot see what happens, but hears the entire group yell in praise. The circle moves apart and he sees pieces of the egg all over the ground.

He looks back at his mate, seeing all the blood on the ground. He can hear her heart beat slowing. He looks into her eyes; her life-force is slowly slipping away,

THUMP THUMP
THUMP Thump
thump
Silence. All of the sparkle is gone from her eyes. Her life force is gone.

The anger wells within him. He feels the sudden surge of energy flow through his body. He opens his mouth, snapping the ropes keeping it closed...

ROOOOOAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

The sound deafens all the hunters, they drop and cover there ears. His energy surges and he rises up, breaking free of the ropes as if they were not even there. The hunters attempt to subdue him again, but fail. He draws back his head and neck, inhaling a deep breath. He pulls his wings back and open, showing his full self. The site of the giant gold dragon doing this makes many of the hunters run.

He lets loose the stream of fire from his throat. Feeling the burn in his mouth, he moves his head back and forth, after the hunters. There screams of agony fill the air as the flames melt the skin off of there bones. He feels all of his anger and hatred for these vile beings come forth in one moment. He continues till they are all dead, even those pleading for there lives were not spared. He hunted them all.

The forest around them is in flames now. He moves over to where the pieces of the egg are, and finds a tiny body of a not fully formed baby dragon no bigger than his hand. He picks it up, and moves to his mate. He places the child next to her, and then lays down there next to his family. He closes his eyes and waits for the smoke and fire around him to take him to death.
